NW Star Academy was formed in 2004 by president Jerry Gatto. Gatto, former administrator and head coach at Lewis & Clark College, retired in 2002 and started the Academy as giveback to the game of baseball. The Academy started by sponsoring a summer American Legion Team made up of Cleveland, Roosevelt, Marshall, and Grant high schools in Portland. That year's team won the Area 2 championship and finished in 6th place at state. We were named American Legion Sponsor of the Year. Also starting in 2004 was the Apple Cup Fall League which started with 6 teams from Portland and Vancouver. The Academy has grown tremendously since 2004. We now coordinate 2 summer teams. One team at the 18U Connie Mack level and one for College Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors. We also coordinate the Pacific Northwest League which formed to provide college players a competitive place to play during the summer. The Apple Cup Fall League has more than tripled in size to include 24 teams in two age divisions in 2006. Plans are already in place to expand the Fall League more by adding more junior level teams as well as a Senior Travel Team that will compete against the local Community College and a 14U year round team. We have also opened an indoor training facility in SE Portland were we conduct private and semi-private lessons as well as team rentals and team instruction. NW Star Productions is your full service event coordination company. We specialize in fund raising golf tournament. We have coordianted tournaments both locally and nationally and have a very positive working relationship with many area golf courses. We will take over the majority of the planning process so you can show up on the day of the event and not to have to worry about anything. We are highly professional and well trained. NW Star Productions also coordinates the Northwest Baseball Convention (NWBC). The event just finished its 7th year with an attendance of well over 300. Coaches from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and beyond come to Portland for 3 days of instructional clinics from some of the best local and national baseball speakers. Components of this event includes evening social hours, a Walk of Champions Luncheon honoring outstanding individual and team performances from the previous year, a hotstove drill exchange and a Youth Coaches Clinic. There is also a College Fair coordinated that brings colleges and aspiring student-athletes together.
