The time has arrived and the 2011 edition of the NW Star Fall "Apple Cup" is underway. Over the past several years, the league has grown from its original 12 teams to its current 54 teams, making it the largest in the NW. The format and philosophy is to give all participants an opportunity to develop and improve in the necessary skill development areas and acquire the mental edge and confidence to be successful at their current level of participation. The league provides a competitive balance with development evaluation for all players participating. All players and teams are given an opportunity to compete against teams they might not face during the preceding summer season. Teams represent areas as far north as Battleground; south to Salem; west to St Helens; and, east to Hood River. Opportunities to sign up as a team and represent a specific community/school(s) are available in addition to encouraging individuals to sign up and be placed on a team.

There are two current divisions of play available to meet the needs of different age groups. The Varsity Level: This Division is an opportunity for the current varsity athlete or prospective athlete to prepare for the coming season against other athletes at the same level. The Junior Level: This level is tailored for the 8th, 9th and 10th graders not ready for varsity competition. A specific goal for this level is the development of correct skills and mental edge training, appropriate for both divisions.

The 2011 season looks forward to another positive NW Star Academy sponsored activity. All teams will play DH on Sundays starting on the last Sunday of August and ending in mid-October; a total of 12 games. We encourage a fast and entertaining style of play by invoking speed-up rules and a time limit on all games. It keeps the games moving and makes for an enjoyable experience for players and fans. The Fall season is a great time to try players at new positions, work on correct batting skills and give your pitchers some added experience on the mound.

The price for participating in this popular Fall League event is very reasonable. Various price levels are available and an added price reduction will be given if a field is brought into play and teams furnish their own uniform and coaches. NW Star Academy can provide, on request, coaches, uniforms and other variables to make the participation and organization a simple process. It is also important to note that the Varsity Level is a Wood Bat League and the Junior Level is given variable options to include wood bat or the new BBCOR approved bat.

There will be a complimentary clinic held during the season to give all participants individual attention and suggestions to improve their basic skills. All players participating in the Fall League will receive discount pricing and Winter Training at our Indoor Facility. Individual, small group and team participation opportunities will be made available.

Registration information is usually sent out in early July and prompt return is encouraged. Go to our website regularly for current information on all our programs to include the Fall Baseball "Apple Cup" Developmental League.
