6-10-08 - Schedule released for this weekend's tournament
NW Star Academy will play Central Point at 8:15pm on Friday night at Hare Field to open up the AAU Pacific NW Championships. They will follow up with a doubleheader on Saturday playing HR Park at 10:45am at Century HS and Gunner Baseball Club at 3:45pm at Hare Field JV. 6-8-08 - 16-2 win in quarterfinals, but momentum dies in 8-7 semi-final loss
The first game of the day was a rematch from Saturday with the same result. NW Star beat Summit Research 16-2. Marcus Rethwill threw 3 great innings in his first pitching appearance of the year. Landon Glynn was 3/3 with 5 RBI.
The second game didn't go as planned EC Red Sox won 8-7 in the bottom of the 7th. The pitching staff struggled giving up 3 walks and 5 hit batters. Those baserunners accounted for 4 of the 8 runs. Nolan Selby was 3/4 with 2 SB and 1 RBI.
6-7-08 - NW Star goes 3-0 in pool play, awaiting Sunday championship bracket announcement.
NW Star won 2 games on the Saturday. First game was 15-7 over Summit Research. Luke Ehli threw 3 strong innings and Desmond Drew closed it out. Brett Bafaro continued his hot hitting going 2/4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Nolan Selby had 3 runs scored.
6-6-08 - NW Star Opens Tualatin Hills Babe Ruth Tourney with 14-7 win
Brett Bafaro hit for the cycle going 4/5 with 5 RBI. Nate Selby threw 3 great innings and was followed by Nolan Selby in his first appearance of the season. Nick Woodson closed out the final 2 innings.
6-1-08 - NW Star wins in dramatic 9th inning rally
Trailing 8-7 going into the 9th inning, the NW Star 14U team showed signs of life and battled to take a 9-8 victory at Liberty HS. Behind strong pitching from Kory Kirwan, Luke Ehli, and Brett Bafaro, the team stayed close all game until the bats were able to push 2 runs across in the 9th. Brett Bafaro had a game tying RBI double and Nolan Selby drove in the game winning run.
5-31-08 - HR Park dominates 14U on Saturday
HR Park brought out the bats and there was nothing NW Star 14U could do. A total of 33 runs in 2 games. In game 1, Jeremy Kronk threw 5 strong innings gaving up 4 unearned runs.
Landen Glynn had two hits while the team had 8 strike outs. In game 2, Nate and Nolan Selby combined for 3 hits while the team had 9 strikeouts. Everyone get at lease one inning on the mound.
5-28-08 - Bend Elks Memorial Day Tournament Recap Day 3
NW Star Academy jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, but were unable to maintain it losing to Roseburg JBO 14-8. Landon Glynn got his first career start on the mound going 2+ innings. George Still and Nick Woodson did a good job in relief.
Starting this week we get back to our regular game schedule with a DH on Saturday against HR Park and a DH on Sunday against Ryder-Showtime. Both days are at Pacific University.
5-25-08 - Bend Elks Memorial Day Tournament Recap Day 2
Another puzzling day for the 14U team as they fail to win a game when getting swept by Lake Oswego JBO and Sunset JBO. 2 sloppy and uninspired games dropped the team to 2-2 in the tournament and out of contention for a championship game.
Game 1 against Lake Oswego ended 8-3. Kory Kirwan battled through 4 innings and George Still was excellent in relief. Nolan Selby hit an inside the park homerun in the loss.
Game 2 against Sunset ended 6-3. Desmond Drew threw 3 solid innings. Landon Glynn was 2-2 with 2 RBI. Luke Ehli was 2-2 with a 2B.

5-24-08 - Bend Eks Memorial Day Tournament Recap Day 1
The 14U team took care of business early in game 1 versus Corvallis going up 4-0 in the first en route to a 13-3 victory. Nolan Selby was 3-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Nate Selby went the first 3 innings giving up 0 runs on 4 hits, 0 walks, and 5 k's.
In game 2, a neck and neck game between NW Star and Prineville Blue ended with a 8-6 victory. Luke Ehli went 4 innings on the mound before giving way to Brett Bafaro who earned the victory. Alex Rose was 2-3 with a 2B and 3B and 3 RBI. His 2 RBI triple in the 6th sealed the victory.
Sunday we take on Lake Oswego at 12:00pm and Sunset at 2:00pm. Both games at Skyview Middle School. Check back tomorrow for updates.
5-21-08 - 14U Drops Close Game with HR Park 8-4
In the final tuneup game for the Bend Memorial Day Tournament, the 14U team dropped a 7 inning contest to HR Park 8-4. A well played game by both teams and great pitching from Kory Kirwan who stuck out 9 while giving up 8 runs. Alex Rose was 3-3 with 2 RBI.
5-19-08 - Weekend split with Beaverton and Mound Time
Saturday's game with Beaverton ended 19-13. We battled back after training 16-2 in the 3rd inning, but couldn't get all the way back. Kory Kirwan hit the first official homerun in NW Star Academy 14U history driving the ball a long ways out of Liberty HS. George Still threw 3 great innings in relief.
In Sunday's game with Mound Time, a different team showed up. 10 total baserunners, 5 walks, and a great offense lead to a 7-2 win. Nate Selby went 5 innings giving up 0 runs.
5-10-08 - Split with Lobos leaves team 7-1
NW Star Academy's undefeated start hit an end with a 9-7 defeat to the Lobos at Pacific University. Nate Selby pitched 4 strong innings and was 2/3 at the plate. Alex Rose led the offense going 4/4 with 2 doubles and a triple.
In game 2, Brett Bafaro and Kyle Vanderkin teamed up to stop the Lobos bats 11-6. Kyle went 4 innings facing just 13 batters and Brett struck out 5 in 3 innings. Nolan Selby went 2/2 with a triple and 2 walks.
5-8-08 - 14U Team 6-0 after Beating Complete Game Braves 12-8
What started as a pitchers duel for 5 innings broke open as NW Star Academy defeated the Complete Game Braves 12-8. Luke Ehli went 4 strong innings giving up only 1 run on 2 hits. The offense broke the game open in the 6th capped off by a bases load triple by Alex Rose. Landon Glynn closed out the game in his first career pitching performance.
4-28-08 - 14U Starts Season 5-0, Sweeps Complete Game Braves DH
NW Star Academy 14U battled to sweep the Complete Game Braves on Saturday winning the first game 9-8 and the second game 11-0. Game won saw NW Star get behind early, but behind quality innings by Dakota Drake and Luke Ehli, we were able to chip away at the lead before taking the lead ourselves in the 6th inning. In the second game, Brett Bafaro was dominating on the mound going 4 strong innings giving up 0 runs. The offense woke up in the second game scoring 5 runs in the first inning.
4-14-08 - NW Star Academy Wins Inaugural Game, Sweeps DH
The first game in the history of NW Star Academy 14U team ended in a 10-7 victory over the Demarini Bulldogs on Saturday April 12th. The second game of the DH was against Forest Grove JBO and the final in that game was 13-7.
3-5-08 - Small Group Pitching Workouts Announced
We will now be having small group pitching workouts on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm. We will continue our regular Sunday workouts as well.
1-31-08 - 14U Winter Workout Schedule Change
The NW Star Academy 14U winter workouts will be moving to Sunday mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm at our indoor training facility at 125 SE Stark St. We are also scheduling small group workouts.
1-30-08 - 14U Team Still Looking for Players
Spots are still open for the NW Star Academy 14U team beginning play in 2008. If you are interested in trying out, please call Joe Taylor 503-380-5685 or email jtaylor@nwstar.net to schedule a private workout. We are working out all positions and the age cutoff is May 1.
11-20-07 - 14U Winter Workouts Set
The NW Star Academy 14U team will conduct its winter workouts on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm at our indoor training facility. The facility is located at 125 SE Stark St. The workouts will begin as a team and evolve into small groups. Additional private lessons can be purchased if requested.
9-17-07 - NW Star Academy announces 14U team to compete in 2008
NW Star Academy will field an 14U, Sandy Koufax team in 2008. Players can represent all communities in Portland and SW Washington. There are no territorial restrictions. The team will be formed during the fall, conduct weekly workouts in the winter, and play a comprehensive spring and summer schedule.
