7-12-08 - College team wins 2008 NW Star Academy Invitational Congratulations to the college team for winning the 2008 NW Star Academy Invitational. The team went 6-0 in the tournament and played some very good games. They defeated the NW Star Academy 18U team 1-0 in the semi final game behind a complete game from Bryan Roby who was lights out on the mound. In the championship, they defeated the NW Timberjacks 1-0 in 9 innings. Shane Hillier went 7+ innings before giving way to Andy Hebrard who earned the victory. Tony Stutevoss doubled to lead off the 9th and scored on a AJ Christenson sacrifice fly. 6-10-08 - College team picks up first victory of season over Portland Cavaliers Coming off a tough 5-3 loss Monday night to the Pacific Indians, the NW Star college team rebounded with strong pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting to defeat the Portland Cavaliers 2-0. Nick Opitz, Taylor Roark, Todd McBride, and Bryan Roby combined to shut out the Cavaliers. Neal Finch went 1/3 and scored one of the runs on a sacrifice fly by Joe Schiller. 6-3-08 - College team drops game # 1 of season 6-4 The first game of the 2008 NW Star Academy college season ended in a 6-4 loss to the NW Star 18U team. 3 pitchers got work including Nick Optiz, Alex Levin, and Andy Hebrard. Conor Clark led the team's offensive attack going 2/2 with a double and a run scored. 6-3-08 - NW Star college team represented in OSAA 6A State Championship Game Conor Clark was the catcher on the Tigard team that finished in second place in the OSAA 6A state championship game. Conor went 2 for 3 in the game and was Tigard's only multi-base hit with a standup double. Conor is a catcher on the NW Stars Collegiate team this summer. Conor will be attending University of Nevada/Reno in the fall. 5-13-08 - John Dunn returns as assistant coach in 2008 We are happy to welcome John Dunn back as an assistant coach in 2008. John will take over for Brandon Fricke, you had to resign due to scheduling conflicts. John has an extensive coaching background which includes stops at both the high school and collegiate level. He is currently a volunteer assistant coach at Lewis & Clark College. 4-9-08 - Eric Deovlet and Brandon Fricke named 2008 coaches We are proud to announce that Eric Deovlet and Brandon Fricke will be the coaching staff for the 2008 NW Star Academy college team. Eric will serve as the head coach and Brandon will be the assistant. Eric has experience at the collegiate level where he is currently an assistant coach at Lewis & Clark College. He also coached at Chapman University in Southern California. In 2006, he spent the summer coaching in the Cape Cod League where his Y-D Red Sox won the league championship. Brandon comes from Linfield College where he played until arm injuries ended his playing career. He has been a high school coach at Taft and McMinnville during both the spring and summer. He has also spent time as an associate scout with the NY Yankees. |
